Postfix to send email thru another relay host, mail server like an ISP’s mail server

There are a few links on the web that explain using postfix (search patiently)

Basic idea

  • setup postfix in ‘Satellite’ mode
  • relay host is your other/actual smtp mail server
  • enable smtp sasl for authentication and setup the parameters

Setting up Postfix to send mail thru another relay host, lil hard to find, Couple of them are – doesnt explain about how to specify username/passwd for authenticating with the relayhost
its covered here (scroll down and look for Redirecting Mail for the Local Root User)

Other links on Setting up Postfix on Ubuntu – explains setting up Postfix with SMTP AUTH and the end of the article has links to other articles
